Feel Empowered to Help Prevent Suicide

Campus Ministry Members,

The counseling center here at GVSU knows how difficult school can be. Not only are you away from your family but you also have huge course loads with hours of homework. We also know how hard it can be to balance your emotional health while trying to balance your social and family life.

The counseling center here at GVSU not only has resources like the 24/7 Hotline and individual counseling sessions, but we also offer a suicide prevention training program known as QPR.

After the QPR training, you will be certified as a QPR Gatekeeper which is a skill you can add to your resume whilst also feeling informed and empowered to be able to help family and friends during emotional crises. QPR training will give you the skills to be able to recognize the signs of suicide and know how to help. The training will also give you the tools to recognize signs in yourself that will help you seek out help or counsel before falling into an emotional crisis.

At the GVSU Counseling Center, we believe that we must work as a community to show everyone around us love and support and to make sure that no Laker ever feels like suicide is their only option. We want to help enable everyone in the GVSU community to help prevent suicide and the first step is becoming QPR certified.

As an added bonus, the QPR training program is LIB 100 approved meaning you can get credit in your course for attending a training!

The next QPR training will be held on April 4th, 2018 in the Kirkoff Center! Please come and show your dedication to helping yourself and others make it through the stresses of college!

Please contact the Grand Valley State University Counseling Center if you feel that you or anyone around you needs assistance in dealing with an emotional, physical, or mental crises. We are here to help you in any way that we can!

As always good luck on your exams and these final few weeks of classes! Stop in to see us anytime!
